Rental Friendly: Reversible Bathroom Makeovers

I don’t know about you but every single home I’ve ever rented had a terrible bathroom.

Bathrooms are one of the most difficult and costly rooms to renew, and the mere fact that eventually, you’re going to move out just makes it very difficult to justify any important renovation.
That shouldn’t stop you from getting creative and making it a cool and functional space you love being in.
There are tons of simple and (thankfully) reversible tweaks that can have a major impact without ruining your relationship with your landlord.

Here are my favorite ones.

GO FOR WALLPAPER

Removable wallpapers are a true blessing if you’re going for a bold, yet temporary design statement.

There are many brands out there that offer hassle-free, durable, peel & stick papers. They can be applied in almost any bathroom or powder room.

DRESS UP THE TILES

Tile decals are an option. Not my first choice… but still an option.
In case you’re wondering, they are vinyl stickers that are meant to be applied on top of your existing tiles and they can be removed at any time.
I’ve never been a big fan of those cause they look really cheap and, they seem to only come in a variety of hideous Spanish-looking designs.
I would personally opt for buying some contact paper and making my own stickers. Cutting out shapes to make new designs and patterns. You don’t have to cover ALL the tiles, just highlight a few.
If you’re not too crafty, your best option for some decent tile decals is probably Etsy.

BOLD MIRRORS

Don’t ever underestimate the huge impact that your bathroom mirror can have! Changing your old mirror can immediately give that upscale look, and brighten up the space if your bathroom doesn’t get much natural light.

Sounds like a pretty good deal, doesn’t it?

Go get yourself some cheap vintage/second-hand mirrors. Play with different shapes and sizes.

UPGRADE KNOBS AND HANDLES

Any ordinary cabinet can be easily upgraded with a coat of paint, but knobs and handles are like jewelry for your furniture: they complete the look.

Don’t be afraid to go for daring decorative pieces, especially if your bathroom is a bit bland and lacks character.

These hardware pieces come with different price tags that can fit any budget, plus you can swap them back at the end of your lease and keep them for the next apartment.

GREEN TOUCH

Plants are the easy fix for literally any space. In this case the rule is ‘the more the better’. Turn that outdated bathroom into a jungle.

Just make sure that you have enough light, plants generall don’t live long in low-light spaces.

Also don’t forget to check if the plants you’re placing love humidity. I wouldn’t recommend succulents or cacti, these are plants that thrive in dry climates.  No one wants an ugly bathroom with dead plants.

SAY YES TO PRINTED CURTAINS

Swapping your old curtain is the easiest thing you can do to add that special flair to your bathroom. It literally takes a few seconds to install and the designs and choices are endless.
I’m loving printed and patterned curtains, there are so many designs to choose from!
Botanicals, black and white simple illustrations, and stripes are my favorites.
